PRASA participates in SARA Rail

The Southern African Railways Association (SARA) Conference will this year take place on Wednesday 22nd of May till Thursday, 23th of May 2019 at Ghallegher Convention Centre. The theme for this year is “Enhancing Railway logistics Efficiencies by Embracing 4th Industrial Revolution in SADC”. Formed in 1996 in response to increasing road competition, SARA was to originally provide the SADC railways with a strong lobbying association to pursue advocacy for fair surface transport competition
between road and rail in terms of policy and regulation The Honourable Minister of Transport, Dr Blade Nzimande will formally open the conference at 10am on the 22nd of May 2019 as introduced by the PRASA Group CEO Dr Nkosinathi Sishi.

PRASA, as one of the main sponsors will also participate on the same day (22 May 2019) as Dr Sishi will Chair Session 4 under the theme “International Perspective of 4th Industrial Revolution”. The session will start from 16:10 till 16:40.

Objectives of SARA
a) Levelling the playing field between surface transport modes to allow for fair competition
b) Development of adequate capacity to cater for demand
c) Improved operational efficiency and effectiveness of regional railways

To facilitate the creation of an environment where the railway industry is a top performer in the
transport sector and make rail the mode of choice.

To be the leader in the promotion of trade, movement of goods and passengers, social and economic
growth in the SADC region and Africa as a whole.
