Progress on Metrorail Pretoria Line Delay

Gauteng, Pretoria – Metrorail is currently clearing the Rovos Railway derailment which occurred this morning just outside the Metrorail Pretoria Station.

The cause of the derailment is still unknown, however, Metrorail officials are on site assisting in the clearing of the derailment from the rail tracks which is estimated to last approximately two days. This will result in the closure of the Pretoria to Centurion line and a temporary delay of train services for the duration of the clearance and repair works.

Infrastructure repairs will be done immediately after the site clearance and preliminary investigation which will last for approximately two weeks. A Board of Enquiry will be appointed by Metrorail approximately one week after the incident to determine the cause.

Metrorail customers from other stations in the Pretoria Region can travel by Metrorail till Bosman Station where they will be bused from there to Centurion Station while Customers travelling from the Johannesburg Region will travel on Metrorail till Centurion Station where they will be bused to Bosman Station and Koedoespoort Station respectively.

Metrorail sincerely apologises to its customers for the unforeseen delay. Metrorail Management and staff send our heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones during the Rovos Railway derailment.
