PRASA Interim Board visits Metrorail Operations

28 MAY 2018

The Chairperson of the Interim PRASA Board, Ms Khanyisile Kweyama along with members of the Board today visited the Metrorail train operations as part of their induction and fact-finding missions.  The aim of the visit was to get first-hand experience of the challenges on the ground as well as interact with passengers on their train travel experience.

“It was important to get an on-the ground experience of the issues rather than seeing them on paper in the boardroom in order for us to make informed decisions about the business” said the Chairperson of the PRASA Interim Board.

The Board took a train from Naledi Station to Nancefield Station to visit the Train Control Operations, the Board then moved to Braamfontein where they visited the Depot and finalised their trip by visiting platform 19 at Park Station where PRASA CRES is building a new cross boarder bus depot.

Overall, the Board was satisfied with the hard work and dedication of the staff, however the Board emphasised the need to stabilise PRASA financially, to ensure that all vacant key management posts are filled and that employees are correctly placed in order to perform their work efficiently.

“It is encouraging to see the dedication on the ground amidst all the daily challenges facing Metrorail operations.  We want to ensure that we as the Board have a full appreciation of the challenges on the ground in order to offer relevant and workable solutions for both the passengers and staff and move the business forward” concluded Ms Kweyama.
